Say What? Same Look, Different Year!

A flashback of my son and me at his middle school wrestling match

My son is in high school now (9th grade) and his homework habits are changing, and not for the better.  It is a struggle to keep him on task and it's driving me batty.  It's not something I can ignore or he will limit his opportunities after graduation.  We were working (I thought) on a New Year and New Homework attitude.  He used to be so good with managing his homework and assignments in middle school, what's going on?!?!?!?

Last night and this morning I once again explained the importance of keeping up with his assignments and informing the teacher or me if he has issues.

ME:  How are the online quizzes going in Spanish?

SON:  What do you mean?

ME:  What do I mean? (deep breath)

SON:  Huh?

ME:  Didn't you have a problem logging-on and taking the quiz this week?  Didn't you e-mail the teacher?  What was her response?  Did it get fixed?

SON: Oh.

ME:  Oh! Say What?!?!?!?  Work with me here.  Have you taken any of the quizzes since Tuesday? (I'm clutching my pearls, because I already know the answer.)

SON:  no

ME:  Say What?!!!?

SON:  no

ME:  Have mercy.

SON:  (he's got nothing - just this look on his face like the photo above)

ME: Whew. Mercy.  (my face looked similar to the photo above too)

SON:  Most of the class can't get to those quizzes.

ME:  Talk to her this morning, I will contact her as well.  Get your grade for each class as of this date.

I know it's still January, but we have to reevaluate our 2012 homework goals.  This here, isn't working.

Mercy.

The Kiddies

Hangin out watching the iPad
This is a picture I took of my kiddies today.  There is a 12 year age difference between my little ones.  There is a 13 year age difference between me and my sister.  So, I'm used to the age gap, but it always seems to surprise people.  My sister and I have always had a great relationship.  She's one of my best friends and she is wise for a youngin.

Having a son as a teenager and a little baby girl, it makes me happy when they share time together.  I hope they have a healthy and loving relationship for years to come as well.

Jessica is Here

My sweet hubby stopped by my office today and took me out for a quick lunch before my next appointment.  He also had good news!   As he was backing out the driveway to pick me up, a delivery truck blocked him in and he wasn't pleased.  It was just the delivery man bringing my Lilly Pulitzer dress I ordered this week.

The Jessica Dress
Lunch and the dress was a great way to end my busy week.  I have a facial tomorrow morning which I want to skip.  I just want to sleep-in for a change.  Since my hubby is home in the morning, I would be able to do this, but not now since I have the facial in the morning.  I'm sure it will be a pleasant experince, so I'll stop the complaining.  I also want to try to get to the Y tomorrow with the fam too.

My Training Plan

I searched and I searched and this is what I've found...some folks were in a rush to train for a 5k.  That would not be me.  I don't want to set myself up for failure.  I've decided on a 12 week plan and not a 4 week or so plan for this new journey.

I found a not so intimidating plan at Running Times that was explained by Dr. Andy Palmer.

Sheroes, wish  me luck!

Fitness & Fun for the Littlest Ones

Even the baby has a membership card!

My family and I visited our local Y and joined yesterday evening.  My son was so pumped once he saw familiar faces in the gymnasium. He ended up playing basketball for a couple of hours.

As I mentioned before, I was eager to see the child care scene.  The child care facility is near the front entrance with glass all around for everyone to see the kiddies.  Child care had been an issue, but I think this will work out fine for us.

I'm still looking for the perfect 5k to run.  I've seen some good events that I'm considering.

My 2012 To Do List (abbreviated)

Happy New Year!  We made it!

I have scoured the net looking for the best way to approach my goal of running a 5k marathon. There are a gazillion sites with tips. Some have a more aggressive training schedule than others. Hmmm. I just don't think I could run 1.5 miles on DAY TWO!!

I mos def need a program that will ease me onto the path towards my first race.  I can't figure out why I've devised this plan during the WINTER months.  I have a track that is pretty close to my home, but I don't know if I can train in snow.  I'm sure people train in the snow, but I've never seen them.

2012 To Do List (abbreviated version):

1. Join the Y tomorrow. We are doing the family plan. I didn't know they had free childcare with the family plan. Score!

2. Select my first local race. Just in case I fall out during the race, maybe it shouldn't be a local race. Hmm. Regardless, I'm really excited about finding a race.

There are a few more things on my list that deal with finishing the basement (photo below), getting my teen organized, and my little one perfectly potty trained.

The begining stages.
